The MiG-25 fighter, despite the fact that it was designed back in the USSR, is still the speed record holder among similar vehicles, writes on his blog, Japanese military expert Mori Kentaro.

Kentaro notes that when the machine’s speed reaches several Mach numbers, the air in front of it is so compressed that a “temperature wall” occurs. In order for the fighter to not burn out in the atmosphere, the MiG-25 developers developed special alloys with new characteristics that were able to withstand the highest temperatures. However, here, Soviet designers were faced with the problem of weighting the aircraft.

To increase the weight of the machine did not affect flight performance, the creators of the MiG-25 used new alloys only in those structural elements that were most exposed to destructive temperature effects.

Created by Soviet designers in the 60s of the last century, the legendary MiG-25 fighter was originally conceived as a counteraction to American high-speed aircraft. He had to quickly reach the discharged layers of the atmosphere and perform assigned tasks at these altitudes. For this, the staff of the Mikoyan design bureau needed to solve the problem of overcoming the so-called heat wall.

The fact is that when the plane gains altitude, and its speed exceeds the speed of sound three times, there is a strong increase in temperature. It reaches the point at which aluminum alloys begin to collapse, from which aircraft were mainly built.

The Japanese military expert recalls that the Soviet fighter set a record in climb as well – it reached a height of 35 thousand meters in just 4 minutes and 11 seconds at maximum thrust. Due to this, even when it was detected by enemy radars, it was already impossible to "get" the aircraft with air defense systems. In addition, the MiG-25 was unattainable for other aircraft.

In addition, a powerful radar was installed on the fighter, as well as four missiles. The many advantages of the MiG-25 allow experts to believe that this aircraft was the most advanced in the world in terms of main characteristics.

At the same time, Kantaro reminded, the car has been called the “King of Speed” for half a century, since no fighter has yet been able to surpass this Soviet development.

Earlier, the American publication We are the Mighty wrote that the MiG-25 "is still the fastest and highest flying fighter in the world." The material emphasizes that this plane immediately set three world records: in speed, climb time and altitude for a fighter.
