Fifty employees of the construction company decided to donate blood on the eve of World Children's Oncology Day. They explained their decision by the fact that they recently began to build a building opposite the center, and every day they are faced with people in need of blood face to face.

Having received their forms, men and women quickly fill them out and rush to the therapist's office. Some of them leave from there with a distressed look – they were not allowed to donate blood. Others go into the office, in which the nurse and the doctor give a short briefing and connect a hemacon (a special package for blood donation).

“I’m a father myself and I know that one day my children may need help. We don’t lose anything, therefore, if you wish, you can ensure that there is no shortage of blood in the country,” Altunyan noted in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.

Doctor Arthur Dabikyan said that in fact in the center there is a lack of blood of a negative Rhesus. Among Armenians, the second positive blood group predominates, and there is almost always an acute need for the negative.

He also said that about 20-50 people donate blood voluntarily every day. But, unfortunately, not everything is suitable for transfusion. He noted that a donor can be a person over 18 years of age and younger than 60. Women should be at least 53 kilograms and men at least 63. Men can donate blood every 3-3.5 months, and women 2-2 , 5 months.

“Donors rarely have faints, mainly due to self-hypnosis, nothing terrible happens to the body. But there were cases when the donor changed his mind and left at the last moment,” the doctor emphasized.

Dabikyan admitted that he loves to distribute chocolates to volunteer donors. Since it not only improves tone and helps to recover, but also improves mood. And “professional” donors, in addition to chocolate, also receive 15 thousand drams (about $ 30) for a package of blood. He also said that 400-450 ml of blood is taken from each donor.

As a rule, donated blood is not used for transfusion entirely. Each dose of blood is divided into an erythrocyte suspension and plasma. The components are packaged and stored under suitable conditions – plasma under deep freezing conditions (-30 ° C), red blood cells at refrigerator temperature, and platelets at + 22 ° C and with constant swaying.
